o BOPP is a variant of polypropylene (PP). Polypropylene a thermoplastic polymer, alternately known as polypropene, is the world’s second most produced synthetic plastic.
o This paper is characterized for its stability and low ooze, which allows the label to be re-positioned in the first minutes of being applied and it increases its adhesive strength in time. The adhesive is permanent.
o It is used for all general applications including food, house care and personal care products. Common applications for BOPP include packaging labels, food containers, medical-grade plastics and laboratory items.
o BOPP film offers significant advantages for food labels. It is non-toxic, and resistant to solvents and acids. Many food and beverage items, such as those containing tomatoes, citrus, or coffee, are quite acidic. Even when the items don’t directly touch the labels, off-gassing or limited contact during the manufacturing process can stain or cause corrosion in other label materials. Using BOPP film for your labels can help mitigate this issue. These same properties make BOPP well-suited for bottle labels, jar labels, and canning labels.
o Labels made with BOPP Polypropylene are extremely durable, and can also be waterproof with the appropriate inks and adhesives. These labels can be immersed in ice-water or subjected to high-humidity without deteriorating
